Causes We Support

Camp Haccamo

Camp Haccamo provides a safe, fun, and enriching summer camp experience for children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. Through a variety of activities such as swimming, crafts, music, and outdoor games, the camp offers its campers the opportunity to build confidence, friendships, and independence in a supportive environment. Operated entirely by volunteers and offered at no cost to families, Camp Haccamo relies on community support and donations to continue its vital work. Supporting the camp helps ensure that individuals with special needs can enjoy the joy, freedom, and personal growth that come from a traditional camp experience designed just for them.  It also provides a respite to the camper care-givers while they are at camp.

Irondequoit Rotary Cub along with several other Monroe County Rotary clubs are major supporters of Camp Haccamo since it’s beginning,  Each year we donate funds needed to keep the camp running, have our club members serve on the camp’s Board of Directors, and provide a Bounce House for camp's Carnival Night .  A few years ago, we provided the camp with a playhouse which provides great enjoyment for the younger campers.

Irondequoit Community Cupboard

We are incredibly proud to support the Irondequoit Food Cupboard’s Holiday Food Basket Program—now for nearly three decades. Every Holiday Season, Irondequoit Rotarians  provide 100 bags of food, including ingredients for a holiday meal and staple items to carry families through the school break. Community, friendship, and service—this is what Rotary is all about. 💙

Dictionary Program

Each year, our club distributes dictionaries to every 3rd grader in Irondequoit as part of our Literacy program – that's more than 400 per year!

It is a pleasure to see the smiling faces of 3rd graders as they receive their very own dictionary. Teachers say it is one of the highlights of the school year and it certainly is one of the highlights of our Rotary year in Irondequoit.

Every once in awhile, we run into a young adult in the community and when we mention Rotary, they smile and tell us their wonderful experience receiving a dictionary.
