35th Annual Pasta Dinner -- another huge success!!!! It was a great community event and our largest fundraiser of the year! All proceeds go to Irondequoit Rotary charities and activities for the local community. Thanks goes out to President Bob's leadership and Dom Fantauzzo for training us all. Kudos to all who supported us with their time, treasure and talents!!! Lots of discussion about record revenues, reduced expenses and the great camaraderie it took to pull it off seemingly without a hitch! If anyone needs to deliver a sign to a customer, please see Doug Decker before our next business meeting. Also wrapped up our Dictionary program this week. B.J. Cunningham and Kenn Van Dieren led us to distribute 546 dictionaries this year in 11 schools! Several members attended ROC City Rotary's Masquerade Fundraiser this week and had a BALL! |
Kenn and Deb Van Dieren demonstrated the art of bobbin lace making to our group. This was actually the V2.0 program follow-up from a program they did previously but it is still too complicated for this author to follow! The techniques of lace making all center around two different actions called a Cross and a Twist. Deb teaches others the skill with demonstrations but is also an avid learner as one never ceases to learn new things in this art. Kenn "supports" Deb's passion and has made a business out of making bobbins and creating lace designs. This art is most popular in Europe and Spain is currently the new hotbed. They both travel extensively to attend conferences and trade shows. They demonstrated many beautiful pieces of artwork created by Deb over the years.
