Program Notes
Joan Halstead is the troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America Crew 17 which is sponsored by our club for special needs adults who wanted to be scouts.  This all started when Joan was approached by a special needs adult who really wanted a Boy Scout uniform.  Joan came to our club last year and with our support and her great amount of enthusiasm, energy, and ability, she has completed a very successful year. Every scout meeting begins with a pledge and a song like we do in Rotary.  The Scouts achieved a medal for their uniform by learning the pledge and several accomplished this.  The club enjoys playing field hockey.  A blind scout was able to score a goal with the help of others.  The winners win bronze medals and they love them so much that they wear them to bed.  Joan thanks our club for contributing the money to pay for uniforms and programs.

The Boy Scouts had a busy year.  In addition to hockey, the club developed survival kits for fireman and police.  They also participated in the Memorial Day parade with the help of Cortese who donated 2 pickup trucks for the scouts to ride as they cannot walk that far.  Several scouts joined us in the 4th of July parade and rode in Kenn's truck (and, yes, he did fill it with gas this year).  The Scouts participated in a club adventure in Marketplace Mall.  They also played bocce and will be joining the Special Olympics next year for bocce.  They do craft projects at every meeting.  Joan feels that she is making great progress with many of the scouts.  There are 17 Scouts signed up but about 13 participate at each month's meeting.  January 6 is field hockey practice at St Margaret Mary school (Kessler center).  See Louis DiPrima to participate.
