President Dan Dwyer welcomed back club member Debbie Renna-Hynes and re-introduced ADG Hap Mills from District 6930 in South Florida. ADG Mills is currently visiting his Irondequoit family, and his son-in-law is a prospective member.
Form to be utilized throughout the year was explained:
- Focus on new member projects ($500 per member)
- New members to be linked with sponsors
- Members should act on personal passion for service; not simply writing a check to a favorite charity
- Rotary anniversaries and birthdays are also mentioned (Steve’s birthday was corrected to July 4)
Sal’s Lighthouse Expansion Project began over the weekend and President Dan was credited with much of the work. Entire triangle has been planted and plants need daily watering. Club members have been encouraged to see the project and help out as needed.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Treasurer Lynn Wozniak reported the following:
- Took over books from Past Treasurer Jason last week
- Financial Report to be updated; expected beginning balance is a rough estimate
- Dues, Changeover Dinner payments, Happy Dollars deposited
- Expenditures included paying back July 4th Parade candy money, Sicilian Club Room use fee and Zoom meeting annual fee
- Outstanding dues from several members to be collected and paid to Rotary International
- 33 active members, 7 honorary and 1 corporate
- 42 total members currently including returning member Debbie Renna-Hynes, as clarified by President Dan
- $1,840 meal deficit reported by Treasurer. President proposed conferring with Treasurer to close out 2022-2023 and report back to membership
President Dan then reflected on meal experience over the last three months: - Full buffet (cost per person) and pizza and sub nights (cost per item) were incurring approximately the same expenses, including incidentals (flatware, etc.)
- Proposal to increase cost of pizza and sub meals to $15 (same price as buffet) sparked lively debate
- Meal program is separate from room charge for current venue: issue was raised of costs during previous year’s search for suitable meeting place
- Deliberation as to whether or not Happy Dollars are considered charitable funds (no) and should be put towards meals (yes) resolved by Past Treasurer Jason
- Motion by Peter to raise meal costs to $20 (as pre-COVID) seconded by Bob Spatola and passed
- Peter brought forth another motion to charge all members $5 for room rental regardless of meal consumption
- President Dan recommended tabling this motion in order to further examine this matter. Other suggestions from members included more menu variety and utilizing surplus to offer a free meal.
BOARD MEETING REPORT - Active discussion took place about utilizing Foundation
- Budget: Treasurer Lynn, President Dan, Past Treasurer Jason, and President-Elect Greg will review status thus far for approval by membership within three weeks’ time
SIGNATURE PROJECT UPDATE - Quotes are in
- Dick Butler was prevented from following through due to illness
- Tom Kosanke will follow up on wood delivery to secure spot
- Wood will be stored at Zoo Road location
- September-October timeframe in terms of labor because of thunderstorms and air quality alerts
- Projected completion by winter
VETERAN’S BENCH - 4 weeks into 6–8-week delivery timeframe

PROGRAM NOTES:
New member presentation by Brandon Barnhart will take place at a later date. Much enthusiasm was expressed by President Dan regarding upcoming visit on July 26 by DG
Julie Carney.
COMMENTS AND ACTIVE DISCUSSION
- President Dan has been facilitating food program as steward assisted by members Brandon Barnhart and Sal Abassey.
- Brandon will be assigned leadership role as designated steward
- It is a heavy task for one individual, so rotating assistants are needed
- Sergeant-at-Arms officer (Olivia; Andrea as second backup and Jason as third) plus volunteers should also rotate monthly
- Sergeant-at-Arms tasks defined as setup through greeting, collection of Happy Dollars and cleanup/teardown. This scope of duty should be brought back.
