The "Honorable" Guy Kittelsen performed the induction ceremony via Zoom for Dr. Aaron Johnson. Dr. Johnson is Superintendent of West Irondequoit School District. He was previously a member of the Avon Rotary Club. He is a life-long service oriented person and extremely happy to become a member of our club. His wife, Ainslie, was on hand to pin Dr. Johnson. Welcome to the Irondequoit Rotary Family! District 7120 Governor Linda Kohl attended and updated the club briefly on a few highlights from the District. She is working to keep the clubs vibrant during the pandemic, is investigating hybrid Zoom/In-Person meeting styles, and identifying fundraising ideas with an upcoming conference. DG Kohl will officially address our club later in the year. Our 3rd High School scholar award recipient, Gianna Joy-Neuroth, from Bishop Kearney was able to join our meeting and is very grateful to receive our cash award which will help with college expenses. Gianna has long been service oriented working in soup kitchens, Pregnancy Assistance Centers, and Leadership roles in high school. She learned this from her single Mom who worked many jobs to raise her. Gianna will attend Nazareth College in the fall for Musical Theater. Her dream is to be on Broadway! Best of luck Gianna! Backpack Assembly is this Saturday, July 25th at 10:30. See Bob Scheidt's email for more information. Bob secured a donation of $1000 from Staples which has gone a long way to reduce the cost/backpack. For members wishing to donate to this project, the cost is $15 per backpack. Bob is requesting that several members come to the Hemlock Shelter on Log Cabin Road in Durand Eastman Park at 10 am to set up for the full event which starts at 10:30. Installation Dinner is on for Wednesday July 29th at Strathallan. See President Tom's note for more info and to confirm attendance. Kim Miranda is new Program/Speaker Chair so please get your ideas for Speakers to Kim as we have several open weeks coming up. We have an excellent opportunity to continue our support to Angels of Mercy. Due to COVID -19, they will not be conducting their annual fundraising walk and will instead lead a virtual walk. They have a history of amazing results from a small but very dedicated group of individuals. For any questions, please contact Jennie Gugino or President Tom.
