Program Notes

Terri Corrigan-Bastuk introduced our speaker tonight, Tamara Denysenko.  Tamara was an active past member of our club particularly in the area of international relations and her resume is impressive:  retired CEO of Ukrainian Federal Credit Union, President of Ukrainian-American Community Federation, Founder & President of Irondequoit Poltava Sister Cities Committee, NYS Women of Distinction and Volunteer of the Year....Tamara was a club member over 25 years ago but had to step away due to busy career.  She is a hoarder of material that she kept of her time with our club and passed along booklets from the International Dinner Dance that our club hosted 3 times in 2003, 2004 and 2007.    See Tamara if interested in being a host family for international travelers as she is always in need of help.

  • Open World Ukraine Visitor Program Serving Children in Time of War - March 13-23, 2024

Ukraine's vast state childcare program, a legacy of the government's prominent role in society during Soviet times, is struggling as war forces millions to flee their homes and often makes tracing relatives impossible. Some of the children in Ukraine's network of shelters are orphans, but more often they have been taken from families struggling with drug addiction, alcoholism, and domestic abuse. Around half of them have physical or mental disabilities. The situation continues to worsen as Russia increasingly targets civilian populations and children. Tentative resources: Hillside Family of Agencies, Center for Youth, Monroe County Department of Human Services, Catholic Charities Family and Community Services, Bivona Child Advocacy Center, Strong Hospital & University of Rochester
