Meeting Notes

Dictionary Project

As part of our recent commitment to begin spending meeting times on service projects,  tonights meeting spent a good portion of time on the Dictionary Project.  Each 3rd grader in Irondequoit will get a free dictionary and tonight we placed Irondequoit Rotary Stickers and Bookmarks in all the books.  It's was amazing that we ended up with the same number of boxes as we started filled with books but still had several books leftover....loaves and fishes for good work???

B.J. Cunningham says a schedule for book distribution to the 3rd grade classes is forthcoming.  See Dictionary Project Photo Album for more pictures of tonight's project.

Senior Events

Lily Lynch reports that we are all set for the upcoming Valentine's Day party at Legacy at Cranberry Landing and St. Patrick's Day party at St. Ann's.  A singer with accompanying pianist has been booked for Valentine's Day February 14 at 6:30.  Flowers will also be provided.  For St. Patrick's Day, the Rochester Academy of Irish Dance has been booked for the party at St. Ann's on March 13th at 6:30.  About 80 residents will be entertained at each venue.

"Sandwich" Boards have been purchased that we will use at events and service project to proclaim "Rotarians At Work".  Graphics is being finalized.

Lori Martinez attended a Multi-Club event recently that reviewed many interesting projects being done by Rotary around the world.  She learned much and encourages more members to attend similar upcoming events.

Irondequoit Rotary Social

President Dan sent out an email to all members about the upcoming social at Irondequoit Beer Company on January 31st from 6-8pm.  Please bring prospective members and send them the graphic Prez Dan sent you that can be used to send invites to friends and family regards our social on the 31st.  And…remember…a bonus presentation regards the Eclipse, which was not on the flyer. You can do that in your forwarded emails…Happy Recruiting!

Financial Report

Lynn Wozniak handed out financial reports and reviewed our club financial position.  All is well.  Still waiting for final word from our accountants on transferring the proceeds from the Pasta Dinner from the Irondequoit Rotary Foundation to the club as was the plan.

Polar Plunge

Our club will support the Special Olympics Polar Plunge event.  The official name of our "plungers" is "Rotary Ice Surfers".  Lily Lynch, President Dan, Dave Long and Greg Blair plus around 6 Interact students will take the plunge in cold Lake Ontario.  See President Dan and Kim Miranda for links to support the event.

ROC City Rotary Event

Our club members are all invited to attend a social sponsored by the ROC City Rotary Club sometime in March.  More details to come soon.

Camp Haccamo Update

Ray Holla updated the club on the history, mission, and recent happenings at Camp Haccamo.   The new president of Camp Haccamo board will be Neal Gorman who has been on the board for several years and has done a good job promoting the camp,  The camp is still looking for new board members.  See Ray if interested.  It is a great opportunity to learn and support a fantastic cause.
