Meeting Notes

Terri Corrigan-Bastuk took notes tonight.  Thanks Terri!

Dave Shaheen shared that the reverse drawdown held in May was very successful and is our second-largest fundraiser.  Dan Dwyer spearheaded a separate raffle for the first time which raised an additional $3200.  Ironically, Dave was the grand prize winner of the raffle and will enjoy golfing at some of Rochester’s finest golf courses.

The second prize was a helicopter ride over Rochester.  The winning ticket was purchased at Tuxedo Corner by a young man who was getting his prom tux.   The father of the young man wasn’t too excited about his son taking a helicopter ride, so the ticket was donated to Les Kuszuba where the ticket was bought!

The club is already sponsoring a RYLA member but has the opportunity to sponsor a student from Bloomfield.  The club had a second spot budgeted but didn’t have another student.  The club agreed to sponsor the students from Bloomfield.

Dan provided an update on the Changeover Dinner which will be on Wednesday, June 26th at The Rochester Yacht Club.    The incoming president, Greg Blair,  will be sending out details soon.

Lynn will be sending out an email to confirm membership renewals for next year.

Program Notes

There was a full house at the Sicilian Sports Club as Irondequoit Rotary recognized the three senior scholarship award winners.  Many friends and family showed up to support the “Service Above Self” recipients.

Bishop Kearney High School - Adelina Santiago. Addy will study nursing at Utica University with the desire to become an emergency room nurse.  While at Kearney, she joined PIRA and participated in mock assemblies.  Through PIRA, she learned the need to advocate for those who don’t have the opportunity to do so for themselves.  She was very involved in BK radio broadcasting and hopes to be involved with the Utica University broadcasting group.

Eastridge High School – Marshall Yannello.  Marshal cited many high school volunteer projects including community trail clean-up,  designing a bench for the Rotary Sunshine Camp, and creating a house for animals with disabilities.  Marshall liked engineering and art classes so he combined his interests and will be going to the University of Buffalo to study architecture.

West Irondequoit High School - Marin Penner.  Marin will be going to Binghamton to study chemistry.  She loves the subject and hopes to go into research. Marin attended the  Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) where she learned all about Rotary.  She was active in band, orchestra, and student government at West Irondequoit and hoped to participate in the same activities at Binghamton.

Many thanks to Rotarians Debbie Renna-Hynes who headed the committee supported by Bob Spatola

Contributions/Fines

Many folks paid a fine for the scholarship winners, Issac’s daughter’s third open heart surgery, BJ Cunningham’s recovery, the passing of Debbie Renna-Hynes sons’ father,  a successful Camp Haccamo car show, Utica pies, and Kenn Van Dieren running out of gas while delivering dictionaries.   Dick Butler paid $20 for his 28th Rotary anniversary. Lou DiPrima paid for another new baby Rotarian due.  Marshall’s Mom put in money for her grandfather who fought at Normandy and would have been 100 years old.
