Dr. Dave Hannan, Rotary District 7120 Foundation Chairman updated the club on The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Dr. Dave is a Newark Rotarian for over 40 years. He is District Foundation Chair (again) to fill in for the Karen Parkhurst who passed away. Pat Stack is in training for the role and will take over in July for a 3 year term. Dr. Dave is always glad to attend our meetings especially due to the great work Kenn Van Dieren has done as our club's Rotary Foundation chair.

Next year's Rotary Theme is “Create Lasting Impact”. TRF Mission: The Rotary Foundation helps Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.
Dr. Dave gave a thorough and strait-forward review of how the confusing Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) “Points” work. Many of us that have been here for a long time remarked how this is the first time we can understand it… See the full presentation for all the details, but simply, as you donate money to TRF, you get 1 point for every dollar donated. Once you donate $1000, you receive a Paul Harris Fellow pin for yourself and now have 1000 points that you can transfer to someone else and make them a Paul Harris Fellow - basically you get a 2 for 1. There are restrictions on how you can use the transferred points so see the presentation for details. Also, we should point out that the PHF obtained through your own donations is differnent than the PHF that our club awards an individual at our annual Change-Over Installation Dinner. That PHF award is donated by our club as a whole and is transferred to the awardee.
TRF has many club level awards as well that recognize each club that reaches a certain goal such has having each member donate at least $25 per year (Every Rotarian Every Year).
TRF has several different funds, each working to help the world in different ways: PolioPlus, Disaster Response, Seven Specific Areas of Focus, Global Grants, Annual Fund, and Endowment. When a club member donates to the Annual Fund, a portion of the money comes back in 3 years to the District to use for their District Grants. For example, our club has consistently applied for District Grants each year for a specific community project and has received about $2000 each year which our club then matches to conduct a $4000 project.
Total Polio eradication still eludes us but we are getting close. There were over 350,000 cases many years ago but is now down to very few. If we had not made this possible with Rotary donations, there would be 10's of millions people infected worldwide at the present.
The Rotary Foundation has received seventeen consecutive four-star ratings from Charity Navigator. Eighty-eight percent of funds are spent on the programs.
