Business Meeting tonight. Prez Dave thanked Jim Kozlowski for handing out latest club directory. Jim will bring directories to next several meetings for those not present tonight. Treasurer Kenn Van Dieren reports that current bank balance plus expected revenues are barely sufficient to cover planned fiscal year expenses so we will need to tighten our belts. New and improved revenues will need to be determined at a separate meeting to be scheduled by Prez Dave. Lee Steinfeldt told us about an International Students group at Eastridge that is looking for donations in order to travel overseas to do charity work. See Lee if interested in helping out. These students helped with the legwork at the recent Eastridge Garage sale where our club made over $250. "Not Your Father' Rotary" prospective membership meeting will be held at the Butler residence on Monday, March 25th. Please try to bring a prospective member and let Dick know in advance. Programs are planned for most upcoming weeks. May 28 and June 5 programs are still available. See Bob Scheidt if you have a program to offer. Kathy Proietti is on the board at Sunset House Hospice. It is mostly run by volunteers and needs our continued support. May 25th is the Sunset House 5K which is a big fundraiser for them. The club voted to donate again this year but Kathy is also looking for individuals to donate as well and handed out flyers for donations. Visit Sunset House website for more information. Kathy will also look into any sweat equity our club can provide. President-Elect (PE) Bob Scheidt attended President-Elect Training last weekend. 5 districts sent over 150 President-Elects. Half are women - good trend but very different than the PETS that he attended years ago plus many more women in Leadership positions at the District level. Rotary is close to eradicating Polio but job is getting tougher because there are so few cases now, you hardly hear about it anymore. Plus, millennials are not even aware of it. Better messaging is needed. Bob attended a meeting where he learned that there is more poverty in the rural areas of Western New York than there is in the cities. Hard to believe. PE Bob also reviewed plans for the Haccamo Playhouse that our club is planning to build. He met with Haccamo leaders and picked out a great site near where the carnival is held each year and has room to grow if needed in the future. He is creating a budget and looking for money from our club, a district grant and donations from his company that has several parents of Haccamo children. It will be a pre-fab house that is easy to build. We will call it "Chris's Playhouse" to honor past member Chris Franco who tirelessly supported Haccamo over the years. District Assembly is Saturday, April 6th. See PE Bob if you want to attend. Lunch is on Bob. Angels of Mercy Pasta dinner is April 7th. Contact Jennie Gugino or Terri Bastuk for more tickets, etc. Day of Caring is Thursday, May 9th. Volunteers will be needed to help out cleaning up the yard at the Heritage Christian Home on Allwood like we do every year. Potential future fundraiser that PE Bob heard about at PETS: raffle for $5 gets winner 5 minutes in a grocery store (Herrema's?). The store gets compensated for anything picked up in the 5 minutes. Win-win for all with very little costs and planning. Treasurer Kenn Van Dieren will make sure our club once again reaches our goal of $100 per member for Rotary foundation. |
