District 7120 Governor Janet Tenreiro was our guest speaker. She is a Suny Geneseo graduate, previously owned the Medicine Shop in Canandaigua with her husband Kim, and a past Athena Award winner. DG Janet is working hard to make Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta's goals come alive in District 7120. "Serve To Change Lives" is this year's theme and it is embedded in everything we do in our work for Rotary. Janet and the other DG's are the "movers and shakers" that need to make things happen in their own district so she challenged us all to become change-makers in our own ways. "Service is the rent I pay for the space I occupy on this earth" is a quote from Shekhar Mehta that drives all initiatives this year. Another part of Shekhar’s message is also very simple: Each One Bring One. The idea there is that if every Rotarian just brought one person to an event, or a meeting, or a service project, we could increase our membership from 1.2 million to 1.3 million by the end of June 2022. Rotary fellowship and service is a "gift" to you so help others by giving it to them by asking them to become members! See more of the RI goals for this year on the Districts website under DG Janet's DG Corner . The ABC's of Life was handed out as a book mark to everyone present by Kim Tenreiro and it will be used to create a book mark for our Dictionary project. Polio is very close to eradication but we still need to go 3 years without a case before it is considered totally eradicated. There have been a few recent cases so the clock starts ticking again. Money for Polio goes to help build the infrastructure needed for any worldwide health issues such as Ebola and Covid so giving now is still very important. Much coming up on the District Calendar: Oct 2 - Membership Seminar, Oct 16 - Rotary Leadership Institute (Virtual), Oct 18 - Multi-District Membership Zoom, Oct 29 - Multi-District Polio Seminar & Dinner featuring RI President Elect Jennifer Jones (1st Woman RI President). The Eastern Cities Dinner has been moved to the spring. DG Janet congratulated us on our strong Membership growth and for surpassing our giving goal to the Rotary Foundation (thanks to the persistent efforts of our very own Kenn Van Dieren!). |
