Meeting Notes
Lynn Wozniak led our meeting filling in admirably for the MIA President Bob.

Honor Flight last Monday unfortunately arrived with the bad weather so no members were able to attend.  Next time hopefully better weather.

Several members attended the Boy Scouts pasta dinner this past weekend and the Scouts were happy to see the support from our club.

Prospective new member Jack Bazige, a refugee from the Congo, Africa attended tonight's meeting.  Jack contacted us via our website and is interested in finding a Rochester area Rotary club that would possibly conduct programs in conjunction with Rotary clubs in the Congo.

Program Notes
Kim Miranda introduced Emily Goldsmith who is with the American Cancer Society (ACS) (Northeast Region at 1120 South Goodman St.)  One of Emily's key goals tonight was to let people know that there is a significant presence of the ACS in the local Rochester area - many think of ACS as just a national program.  More money is invested here in Rochester than other places in the country because of the very charitable people in Rochester and the abundance of great health care providers. The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge program provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers. More than just a roof over their heads, it’s a nurturing community that helps patients access the care they need. Each Hope Lodge community offers a supportive, homelike environment where guests can share a meal, join in the evening’s activities, or unwind in their own private room. Patients staying at a Hope Lodge must be in active cancer treatment, and permanently reside more than 40 miles or one hour away from their cancer treatment center. Each patient must be accompanied by a caregiver.  Many activities make up the fundraising calendar for local ACS.  There is a wine tasting event, golf tourney, Breast Cancer walk, Relay for Life (in June, teams have at least one person alternating on track for 12 hours to raise funds), and Real Men Wear Pink (in October - club unanimously volunteered President Bob Scheidt for next year).    In 2018, Rochester ACS invested in providing over 2,500 free rides to treatment in Upstate NY, meeting with over 200 women in the Greater Rochester Area to fit them for a free wig or head covering, provided over 11,000 nights of free lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers at the Rochester Hope Lodge plus more activities.  Great program and a very worthy cause.  Kim would like our club to become involved by cooking a group dinner at Hope Lodge.  More to hear on that in the near future.

Contributions/Fines
Lots of donations for Emily Goldsmith - tonight's program, guest Jack Bazige, and Veterans Day.  Guy Kittelsen relayed a tragic Korean War experience that crystallized the sacrifice of our veterans.   Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to Mark Hiscock!  And Kenn Van Dieren's new fence finally showed up!
