Adam Bello, Monroe County Clerk is making the rounds to community groups to spread the message of several new initiatives from his office. Adam was thankful to be in his home town and misses being at more Irondequoit events. Going around and seeing community clubs is one of the favorite parts of his job. He thanked us for all the work we do in Irondequoit and around the world. He especially enjoys seeing the Little Free Libraries which bring the community together to meet and "hang out" socializing at the libraries. He also highlighted our Dictionary program. His 3rd grader son at Listwood was very excited to get a dictionary and has not put the book down since receiving it. Mr Bello runs the DMV on behalf of NY state. His other job is filing court and other official documents in his office. He also manages pistol permits and is a passport agent and an agent for other state needed documents. Veterans Discount Card program - Clerks office partners with vet groups in the area. They produce an ID for each vet when they show their honorable discharge papers. Businesses offer discounts to vets as their way of giving back to the country. Entirely free program. Pistol Permits - NY SAFE Act requires that pistol permits get re-certified every 5 years. So anyone with a permit before 2013 has to re-certify before the new year. About 30,000 Monroe County residents need re-certification. Penalty for not re-certifying is a revocation of the pistol permit. All firearms are confiscated when permit is revoked. Process for Police to find those who do not re-certify is not exactly clear at his time. A 2005 federal law created a new ID standard called Real ID and this takes effect in October 2020. Passport and enhanced drivers license are Real ID compliant already. Standard drivers licenses are not Real ID compliant so you won't be able to use it for airline travel or other places that a federal ID is required. Enhanced licenses are $30 more than regular licenses but has the added benefit of allowing you into Canada via land travel without a passport. The DMV has initiated a "Fast Pass" Reservations system. Call ahead and make a reservation before going to the DMV for any service and it cuts down on your time considerably. Stats show that more and more people are using this reservation system indicating it is a successful program. |
