Meeting Notes

President Brandon Visited 1330 Cancer Center and will come back to the club in a few weeks with a proposal on how we may be able to support them.

Camp Haccamo:  successful car show last weekend.  13th annual car show.  Even with rainy weather, raised just over $27,000.

Bob Scheidt’s car won an award.

Bob Scheidt announced that as a result of his upcoming retirement, he would like to bring his Rotary family and his QVI family together to celebrate.  He and Judene will be hosting a happy hour from 4:30 – 6:00pm on July 1st at the Sicilian Club.  There will be an open bar for beer & wine with hot hors d’oeuvres. Program Notes

Bob Spatola introduced our High School Scholarship Awardee from Irondequoit High School:  Riley O’Conner and parents Tom & Chris.  Riley enjoys helping younger students and had very strong recommendations from school leaders for this award.  She is a National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society member.  Riley participates on the Swimming and Diving varsity teams and DECA.  She has a deep commitment to school and community. She is a dependable team member and a leader in everything she tackles.  SUNY Brockport is next for Riley who currently works at WIHS and SeaBreeze as a lifeguard.

Riley then addressed the club and gave the best HS Scholarship Award speech many of us have ever heard.   She will attend SUNY Brockport for Sports Management and minor in Marketing Communications.   She has already taken many college courses so she is taking an internship.  Enjoys being very busy.  Helps coach the modified swim team.  She did more than coach, she helped mentor the freshman with school work and life in high school.  Thanks to Mom and Dad for helping her accomplish all her crazy ideas and projects!  And thanks club for their support in having this award.

Dan Dwyer introduced Sarah Clark. NYS Assemblymember for District 136.  Sarah is mom of 3 swimmers so she is uniquely aware of how Riley's parents deserve praise!

Sarah surprised our club with a gift – a framed signed copy of the law that named part of Rt 590 as Major General Norbert J. Rappl Memorial Highway.

Other items reviewed included:

  • Adaptable Kayak Launch at Durand Lake has been approved but it is county lead.

  • Budget was 2 months late but held up to help school districts

  • New bill will fully cover Universal Pre-Kindergarten costs for NY residents.

  • We think we have a green light on the town campus work. Hold-up on playground needs to have contract signed.  Perticone said he thought it would be done this year.

  • Capital  $ allocated for red light for fire station.

  • Energy - governor is exploring nuclear.  Solar has helped keep the grid up in the past.

  • Put a year moratorium on data centers because off the energy needs not answered.  Need a real plan before moving forward.
