Meeting Notes
Foundation Bullet:  What is our grant model designed to do?  Simplify Foundation programs and processes consistent with the mission; Focus Rotarian service efforts where they will have the greatest impact by addressing priority world needs that are relevant to Rotarians; Offer program options to help achieve both global and local goals; Increase the sense of ownership at the district and club levels by transferring more decisions to districts; and Gain greater understanding of the Rotary Foundation's work and enhance Rotary's public image.  The Rotary Foundation is continuing to make a difference in the world!
Next week's meeting (March 9th) will be live and in-person at our first trial location:  Merchant’s Grill – 881 Merchants Rd. Rochester, NY 14609
We will be ordering and paying individually from the menu.  There will be a $5 surcharge added to everyone's bill to cover the cost of the room.  Our presentation will be our annual HACCAMO Update by Dolly Kujawa and Robert Williams.  PLEASE NOTE:  Please bring to the meeting any items that you want to donate items to the Ukraine Relief Shipment that Intervol and our local Ukrainian community are sending to the Ukraine at the end of the week.  The ONLY items wanted:  Sleeping bags, new underwear and socks, Adult diapers, feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes.
St. Patrick's Day at St. Ann's:  BJ Cunningham ordered shamrock cookies to be delivered to residents in lieu of our annual party.
Strategic Planning Committee:  they are busy prioritizing details from workshop and will be coming to the club soon with timing and plans to address needs.
District Grant:  Tom Kosanke reports that we are still planning to do something with Keeping Our Promise for Afghan refugees but the idea of translating the DMV training has been shelved.  New plans are being put together.
Haccamo Playhouse next steps:  breaking down to-do's into 3 steps:  (1) Put up plywood - Spatola/DiPrima (2) Paint - Shaheen (3) Furnishing - Holla.   Kim Miranda is looking for someone who could put up a mural and a chalk board.
Help for Ukraine:  Terri Bastuk will send out info in a separate email for individuals interesting in donations.  The club voted to use our $1000 International Fund budget item to support the Ukranians.
Look for an email from Terri Bastuk regarding the Meeting Venue options that are being considered.  We need everyone to complete the short survey.
Comedian Steven Wright Quote of the Week:  "Borrow money from pessimists -- they don't expect it back"
Program Notes
Our presenters this week are Greg Wildman and Joe Testani from ROCTAC (Rochester Threat Advisory committee), which is a collaborative effort between local schools, domestic violence groups, social workers, mental health experts and law enforcement.  They open channels to communication for assessing potential threats. The coalition consist of Monroe County Sheriff's office, in collaboration with Monroe County, Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Secret Service, New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, New York State Police, Fairport Police Department, Roberts Wesleyan College, University of Rochester, Fairport Central School District, Villa of Hope, Willow Domestic Violence Center, Veterans Outreach Center, and a host of law enforcement agencies, school districts, colleges and universities, human resources and mental health professionals, houses of worship, and community outreach partners.
The group meets regularly to share potential threats in the community and the group acts as an advisory committee to help the separate entities involved.  The goal is to stop acts of violence before they occur by addressing the root causes of the subject grievance.  There is a known behavioral pathway to intended violence (Grievance-Ideation-Research/Planning-Preparation-Breach-Attack).  The idea is to identify individuals that are expressing behavior in the early stages so they can be re-directed called "off-ramped".  It is a balancing act between public safety and health/wellness need of persons at risk as well as those affected by the person at risk.
Several examples of how this has worked on actual cases was reviewed including the arrests made in an alleged bomb plot discovered within the Greece High School.  Great presentation and thankful this is happening at the local level!
Many contributions for: Foundation, ROCTAC presentation, & Ukraine.
