Program Notes

District 7120 Governor Dave DeMers joined Spencerport Rotary as an individual member in 2014.  He started as a Rotarian in a family membership in 2011 with his wife Ann. Dave is past president of the Spencerport Rotary for 2017-18 and 2022-23.

Dave is a retired police officer from the Rochester Police Department. 25 years of service to the community.  He is also retired from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.  His career as a law enforcement officer has given Dave a strong insight into getting to the root of a problem and being able to resolve the situation in a peaceful non combative way.

Dave’s wife Ann is a retired high school teacher and is currently a home travel agent. Ann is an active member of the Spencerport Rotary.

Dave reminded us as a new Rotary year begins, yet,  let us not forget what Julie Carney brought to our district in sharing Gordon McInally’s hopes and ideas. Julie poured her heart out in a personal message from her own family’s experiences in regards to mental health. Continuity is essence in leadership and Dave will continue making sure we continue to focus on mental health this year.

This year’s theme of the Magic of Rotary inspires us to continue doing great feats of service that have a lasting impact on millions of people. As the year progresses, you will hear the phrase Simply Irresistible and that is what I want each club in this district to become.

Rotary's #1 issue is Membership and Dave will focus on increasing the District's membership.  Ways to increase membership:  (1) reach out to the District's Membership committee for new ideas.   Many school teachers are reaching retirement age so that might be a good source. (2) look at Grapevine each week to see what other clubs are doing (3) Retain members by reaching out to new members and see if club is meeting their needs (many leave within 3 years) and start a mentoring program (4) Start a new club when you see a need.  DG Dave's goal is to increase the District membership by 200 new members.  We lost 100 members last year.

This chart shows the process of creating a positive public image in the community to drive membership and create a strong and impactful club.

DG Dave is also looking to instill PEACE in the community and at the Club Level.  Keep looking for ways to be positive with those around you and create understanding.

Look for more info on the District Conference in May 2-4,  2025 in Corning.  Magician Sky Sands will perform.

Bishop Kearney President Paul Colontino has been in office for only 5 months so he is reaching out to meet all community members.  He is excited meeting all the BK alumni everywhere he goes.  BK has lots of synergy with Rotary ideals and issues and increasing enrollment is a priority.  There is a Hockey Program where 120 student athletes live on the 3rd floor of BK.  The program is known worldwide and has a number of elite hockey athletes.   Paul also has plans to enhance the facility.  He showed us the plan to build a new sport courts including a new pavillion sponsored by Renewals by Anderson.  His next big project is to enhance the street appeal of the front building with some modernization.   Also new is an international program that now has 12 international exchange students (8 week, half year, and full year).
