Meeting Notes
We are meeting at Camp Haccamo this weekend:

Rotarian Lead:  Ray Holla
Time:   10:30 am
Location:  Irondequoit Playhouse at Camp Haccamo
Bring:  Gloves, shovels/rakes, dress warm
Flag Raising:  Noon
Lunch:  Following Flag raising;   Bring your own lunch;  Ray will have a cooler of water

Contact Kim Miranda if you are able to help with transporting materials from Home Depot to the camp.  Home Depot has provided a generous donation of landscaping materials.

Last week events at Rochester Community Inclusive Rowing (RCIR) and Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) were great successes.    We will help build a trailer for the disabled rowers to get their skulls in the water at RCIR.  And at SHP, 55 bunk beds were made with the help of our volunteers and a very efficient organization.  Thanks to all who participated and saw first hand how our club's support helps other groups in the community do great work.

Pasta Dinner Planning:  lots of discussion on size of ad in booklet.  It will be whatever size is needed to make the booklet manageable depending on the number of ads needed.  Business sponsors will get an ad, family sponsors probably a line in a listing up front in the booklet.  Thanks to Lee Steinfeldt who will create the booklet.  Jen Gugino is publicizing the event on Channels 8, 10, & 13 and in the local messenger.

Program Notes
July 1 began the Rotary New Year with the appropriate theme Rotary Opens Opportunities.

Rotary International President Holger Knaack introduced his theme in January at International Assembly for Rotary year 2020-21 as “Rotary Opens Opportunities”

He said “Rotary is not just a club that you join.  It is an invitation to endless opportunities. It opens opportunities to serve in a project as big as END POLIO NOW and also in a small community project where you plant a tree. Everything we do opens another opportunity for someone somewhere.”

At International Assembly, the District Governor Elects were asked to convey to their clubs the message that Rotary Opens Opportunities.

Such opportunities are to:

 1) Create new, innovative club models, to help expand outreach by creating a satellite club or a community based Rotaract Club

 2) Ensure that each club have at least one strategic meeting- asking “What should our Club look like in 5 years and what steps should we take to achieve this vision? What value do we bring our members?

 3) Select new members carefully. Make sure they are a good fit with your club and that the club meets their expectations. Engage them and take care of them

 4) Continue your clubs efforts to end polio by donating to END POLIO NOW. We must fulfill our promise that we made to the children of the world.

It is now 6 months since International Assembly. Our lives have changed but the goal to “open opportunities” has not.

We are Rotarians and must remain optimistic, and continue to seek opportunities to engage members, grow Rotary membership, fundraise and perform service projects.

Rotary clubs who are able to embrace change and enthusiastically support opportunities will come out stronger than before.

Linda excited to see so many clubs start hybrid meetings.  Virtual meetings will not go away but just make it easier for people to attend meetings in the district especially those in the southern part of the district.  Some districts have seen clubs close due to coronavirus but so far none have closed in District 7120.  The virus has created new ideas like virtual fundraising.  The district is looking into a free way to create funds online and will roll it out once we know more.  Linda has started a Public Image Committee and is looking for clubs to engage and learn about social media opportunities like Facebook live.  All district training this year will be virtual (e.g., President-Elect Training, District Seminar).  The District Conference is May 8th weekend in Corning.  Everything being done to be socially distant and much is offered virtual.  Watch for new 7120 District projects in the area of Diversity and Environment.

Contributions/Fines
Lots of donations for District Governor Linda Kohl, recent club events, and Pasta Dinner.   Prayers for Bob Spatola's sister who had a surgery.  Doug Decker is happy both eyes work well now but still got side-swiped in his car recently.  Lee Steinfeldt sold her house in the city.  Fran DiPrima also had successful medical procedure.  Louis DiPrima celebrates wedding anniversary and Jen Gugino is expecting 15th great grandchild!
