Meeting Notes
Next week's meeting is cancelled due to our Drawdown meeting the next day, Thursday May 30th at Ridgemont Country Club.  The next weekly meeting on June 5th will be our last at Remington's because the business is changing hands and will be shut down for 6-8 weeks.  Our club's record of closing restaurants is amazing!!

Rotary/Chamber Steak Roast is Wednesday June 12th at 5:30 at Camp Eastman, Kusak Lodge.  Please let President Dave know if you plan to attend.  This is in place of our regular meeting that week.

Our Drawdown Dinner tickets are basically sold out.  President Dave has done a tremendous job selling out the event and it should be a great time at Ridgemont.

Rocco Leone, President Dave, and Jason Miller worked the "Raise a Glass" wine tasting event last weekend and earned several cases of wine that our club can use to raise funds for Camp Haccamo.  Kudos to Rocco, Dave, and Jason!

Program Notes
Terry Buford has been Irondequoit Library Director since 2004.  He moved to the town because he liked the people so much.  The Library is a very different place than it was when most of us were kids.  No more "shushing" as they encourage an active facility (although there are still many quiet places for those who are trying to read).   The Library here and around the country is changing from a "book palace" to an "information technology center".  The Library must shift with the digital IT revolution that is happening.  Libraries were first formed in the US so that there would be an "informed electorate" in order to have a strong democracy (what happened??).   This is why libraries are often taxpayer funded.  Today's Irondequoit Library now has the following in addition to books:  technology/computer training classes/tutors, health care insurance assistance, job search assistance, access to online government forms, homework assistance for school children, summer reading programs, critical thinking skills so people don't believe everything they see on the internet, free WIFI access for your mobile decices, online access to E-books that you can rent (hint: put your kindle in airplane mode if you want to keep it past the rental deadline).  Little known fact:  we are entitled to get a NYC Library card as residents of NY state - they have a much larger catalog of e-books that you can borrow.  Links for all these resources are available at the Irondequoit Library Website.

The building of a new, central library in Irondequoit was a difficult task but appears to be very successful.  Last year there were over 6000 private meeting room reservations (up from 4000 the previous year), the total expenses are down versus the two locations, and over 250,000 people have been in the door since it opened.
