Laura Canne is Program Supervisor for Notre Dame Learning Center (NDLC). The NDLC does 1:1 tutoring of local students. There are two locations:  Bishop Kearney and at the corner of Lyell and Dewey. 

It was a year of firsts for NDLC.  They were able to purchase a computer assessment program used to assess a students grade level in reading & math.  Reading tends to be at the lowest levels for the students tutored.  

The NDLC was the recipient of our District Grant money last year.  Laura was very thankful for our support.  The donation was used to 1) Create a Book Club which makes reading fun and includes competitive games that drive reading motivation., 2) Provide field trips to Rochester Museum & Science Center, Strong Museum (loved the Bernstein Bear) and Zoomobile, and 3) Purchase a very useful White Board for helping with instructions.

There are 4 paid staff plus volunteer tutors.  30 students were serviced last year in grades K-8th grade.  They are in need of tutors as this is what limits how many students can be served.  They are also in need of 5th & 6th grade books - especially series books which are a big hit.  

Most funding is via donations.  There is a fundraiser golf tourney on July 27th at Webster Golf Course.  See website if interested.
