Dr. Aaron Johnson is Superintendent of West Irondequoit School District.   Aaron reviewed the district's plan for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity.  The district has done much over the years to promote diversity but realized that it was not done in a cohesive manner &  regularly communicated to the community.  Racial unrest in the USA this summer spurred the need for the district to better coordinate all the work they are doing as well as create a community coalition to further improve equity, diversity, and inclusivity.  From the district website: "The Coalition for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion is dedicated to creating an equitable, accepting, transparent and inclusive culture for ALL students, staff, families, and community members. Further, it is aimed at establishing a culture that embraces diversity, strengthens relationships among ALL students within our community, and adopting culturally responsive practices and curricula that promote student voice and acknowledges current issues.  Lastly, this Coalition will create a framework for equity, diversity, and inclusion that will be used to evaluate current and future policies, programs, practices and procedures." 

The District was the first in the area to run an Urban-Suburban program which offered equitable school experiences to those who would not otherwise have it.  Roc 2 Change was a student summit on race that has been nationally recognized.  Still much work to do to improve teaching and administration staff diversity but the pool of applicants is low.  Work needs to be done to enlarge the funnel of diverse applicants.  Work has been done to make textbooks culturally relevant.  Very informative program on great work being done in the district.
