Last Wednesday, a group of Ken, Ray, Lou, Tom, Dick, Kim, Michelle, Jason, and Kathryn were Community Chefs at the Cancer Support Community of Rochester, 255 Alexander St. We had the honor of meeting their new CEO, Jim Love, and preparing a delicious Taco dinner for members dealing with Cancer. After dinner, we toured their recently renovated facility and learned about the different programs offered to support over 5,000 Individuals annually. This year will be CSC's first holding their daycamp at the Sunshine Campus Rush, NY. Ray will connect with them to potentially help and receive counselors between our camps, which are on separate weeks.
Thursday, July 28 meeting is at Camp Haccamo. Meet at the pavilion by 5:30 for dinner. More info to come on a special menu for $15; otherwise, we will eat Tacos like the campers.
INTERACT CLUB – It is almost official! More information to come on startup activities and the launch of the Interact club at West Irondequoit High School this fall. DICTIONARIES – Kenn and BJ are ready to start working on the annual Dictionary Project after school is back in session in the fall. Lou offered his garage as the delivery point for the large shipment of dictionaries. Unsure if Fran is aware or will be surprised! HOLIDAY BASKETS – Our Holiday Basket Packing Project will be Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at the lodge at Eastman Park. There will not be a meeting that night. We will pack and party instead. PLAYHOUSE – Pete Ruddy from Priced Rite Painting (585-259-7952 pricedritepainting.com) painted the walls and ceiling of the playhouse last week. We are very grateful that Pete donated his time, paint, and equipment for the project. The club discussed ways to thank Pete for doing this for the kids at camp. Update: Dave Shaheen and Bob Scheidt finished up by painting the floors! Thank you to the team of Bob Spatola, Lou DiPrima, and Peter Mendick for their time and talent! Check out Facebook and the website for pictures of the beautiful playhouse. Also, see the May 11 Rondequoter for photos of the fantastic plywood job that got us started on the interior! MEMBERSHIP – The membership committee has been VERY busy. They passed out copies of the newly updated club brochures, a new member mentor program description, a new member passport, a short elevator speech, and a longer background document about the Rotary and Club to include in the new member packet. Business cards for outreach are coming soon.
FOUNDATION – Kenn encouraged everyone to consider joining our District’s PolioPlus Society. For more information or to join, see an email from Janet Teneiro sent on July 10, 2022, with the subject line The PolioPlus Society. Congratulations to Jim and the new Paul Harris Award Committee members! Many expressed appreciation to Pete Ruddy for painting the playhouse. On a personal level, Jennie was grateful for visiting family members,s and her children and grandchildren who got COVID while in Italy but are now safely home. Tom shared that he did well in a bike race this weekend, but he was sad to report that he could not take up his daughter’s offer for a last-minute trip to Paris because of the race.
