The first ever virtual "passing of the gavel" occurred tonight as Out-Going President Bob Scheidt "threw" the gavel through Zoom to In-Coming President Tom Kosanke's outstretched arms. Quite a feat! The two and their families met earlier in the day to exchange the gavel in a more "normal yet social distancing" way. The formal changeover dinner is currently planned to be July 22nd or July 29th at Strathallan. President Tom will look to see what is best for members calendar and still has lots of details to work out with Strathallan. With Monroe County restaurants now able to seat 50 people, we are assuming the Strathallan will meet the requirements. More to come from President Tom as he meets with them next week. Membership update: Dr. Aaron Johnson, Superintendent of West Irondequoit Schools has submitted his application for membership and his induction will be scheduled in the near future. Budget update: plans will be conservative given current situation. Pasta Dinner planning will continue with focus on takeout and limited seating. Drawdown this year is cancelled and will plan to go in Spring 2021. Community Service for senior centers will likely shift away from parties to other alternatives supporting seniors. Overall, monies for specific budget items in the past will be spent in the general category but in social distancing ways. President Tom plans to continue with Zoom meetings weekly but would like to meet once a month at alternate outside venues such as Camp Eastman, Camp Haccamo or members backyards. The steak roast may still happen tbd. "Has Been Squared" Bob Scheidt introduced a new potential project with backpacks. Look in your emails for more info. We will vote on it at an upcoming meeting. Looking to get new Chief of Police Alan Laird in for an upcoming program. Will be interested in his suggestions on how our club can better help the community at this time. National Night Out, an IPD event which we support is scheduled for Oct. 6th. |
