 Our very own Lily Lynch was recently appointed Executive Director of Rochester Global Connections. Rochester Global Connections (RGC) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that has been promoting international understanding and cultural exchange since 1957. By connecting members of the Greater Rochester Community with international students and visitors, RGC provides a variety of cultural, educational, and professional programs to enrich the experiences of those involved. RGC is located on Mt. Hope Avenue and was originally part of the university of Rochester but is now fully independent of the university. RGC has many partners to conduct their work including all the local colleges and many other non-profits operating in the cultural exchange area. The goals of Rochester Global Connections are: - Enhance international students' assimilation to American life through culturally and educationally enriched programming.
- Foster global connections by linking emerging leaders from diverse backgrounds with professional counterparts in Rochester and beyond.
- Provide specialized programming for the international dependents of students, offering support and opportunities for growth.
At its core, Citizen Diplomacy is the belief that individuals possess the power to influence US foreign relations on a personal level, "one handshake at a time." These individuals come from a variety of backgrounds, all driven by a common desire to engage in meaningful, mutually beneficial dialogue with people from around the world. RGC works with international visitors to the Rochester area who are normally in the US for a month or so. RGC usually manages their time for 3-4 days while in Rochester. The other major clients are international students at local universities. Volunteers are needed to help with the programs offered by RGC. Volunteers are needed to be Friendship Volunteers, Home Hospitality Hosts, and Board Members. Lori Martinez was a volunteer in the past and thoroughly enjoyed her time as a volunteer - very rewarding!
