Meeting Notes
Our club will sponsor 2 high school students to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) this summer.  Dr. Aaron Rodgers has nominated a candidate from West Irondequoit and is working with East Irondequoit to nominate one of their students.

BJ Cunningham reports a successful dictionary distribution took place last Friday.  492 books were distributed to 11 schools.  Kenn Van Dieren had everything organized before-hand which made everything run smoothly.  Helping were Deb Van Dieren, President Tom Kosanke, Bob Spatola, Dick & Linda Butler and Jim Cunningham.

Cookies have been ordered for St. Patrick's Day for St. Ann's Home.  BJ Cunningham is a one-women show on this and will pick up and deliver all the cookies to St. Ann's with help from their staff.  Thanks BJ for all you do!

March 17th meeting is a Business Meeting but we will start off with a short presentation on Camp Haccamo by Ruth Cronkright (President of Camp Haccamo) and Dolly Kujawa (Executive Director).  The club will also present our annual donation  to the camp.

In order to qualify for the District Grant, we need 2 club members attend virtual training.  Click HERE for more information.  Deadline is March 30th.

Program Notes
Past District Governor Dr. Dave Hannan presented "End Polio Now" --  an update on the Polio Eradication effort of Rotary.  Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. It has taken longer than expected but our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever.  As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.  Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.  Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.    Dr. Hannan reviewed the three types of Polio and the implications of eradicating each.  Only one remains in the wild.  Although rare, some outbreaks of polio occur due to the oral vaccine.  The polio eradication effort spearheaded by Rotary has built a worldwide infrastructure that is now being used to fight Coronavirus.  So money donated helps the fight against Polio as well as any other virus that might impact us now or in the future.
Contributions/Fines
Lots of contributions for:  the Dictionary project, Dr. Dave Hannan's presentation on Polio and the health of all members families.   In honor of the 35 years of polio work, Kenn Van Dieren challenged club members to contribute $35 to Polio eradication and all present did so.
