Meeting Notes
Jennie Gugino has been a realtor for 40 years and was surprised yesterday when she received the annual Greater Rochester Association of Realtors award. A dream come true which was totally not expected. Congratulations Jennie!!

Pasta dinner is in 2+ weeks.   Sales are slower than previous years so we are far behind!  Please make a push to get money and sales in asap.  Duty roster will be going out soon.  Look for email from Dom with your duties.  Also need to make sure we get the student volunteers that helped so much in past years.   Please submit sign info by November 6th so signs are ready for the  dinner.

Thanks to Lynn Wozniak, Kenn Van Dieren and Lori Spatola for working the Senior center Halloween party last week.  Good turnout but lots of candy left over so we have it for the Haunted Hampton this Sunday.  Be at the Hampton at 3:30 to set up.

Rocco Leone encouraged everyone to attend and bring a friend to the I-square tap takeover for Camp Haccamo this Saturday.  Camp Haccamo Walk was success and revenues are up this year.  The Car show this summer netted $10,000 alone.

There is a new member meeting on Monday Nov 6th at 7 pm.  Last meeting garnered interests from 2 prospects.

Next week, we meet at Chapel Oaks.  Need to commit to Bob by this Monday so that he can let them know the number attending,

December 6th is food baskets at Camp Eastman.

Guy Kittelsen spoke about his experience in the Korean War.    Serving is a very unique experience and he hopes that the other vets in our club will share their experiences in the next few weeks.   Guy was too young for WWII but ended up in serving during the Korean War.   He went to school for ROTC.    He was shipped to Korea and was lucky to go first class.  90 degrees  when he arrived so didn't need the winter uniform he hurried to bring.  When he arrived, he thought truce was near but that turned out to be wrong.  He was a construction engineer but became a combat engineer when he got to Korea.  He was in the 40th infantry division.  Once, he saw an MP lying in a ditch a and wondered what he was doing.  Turned out they received a speeding ticket for driving too fast!

Where he was stationed, there were signs that the enemy can see you.  Luckily, they did not have as much ammunition as US did so did not waste it.  Riding in a jeep takes some practice so you don’t fall out.  And those jeeps could make any hill you thought they would never get up.   Guy was lucky in that most things were pretty stable where he was stationed.   Punch Bowl mountain range was a location that he went to build roads.  Muddy roads were difficult to work with bulldozers.   While working a fellow officer jumped off a bulldozer onto a land mine and several soldiers were killed and hurt because of it.  It was the only mine found after a thorough sweep.  Guy had jumped in the same area just before!

When the truce finally became effective, they decided to shoot off the ammunition so they didn't have to carry it back down the mountain.   In the army you made due with whatever equipment you can get and often had to make it up as you go (they made a crane from a telephone pole).  Guy wouldn't want to do it again but glad he was able to serve our country.
